A Review on Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves

Loyalty.
Just one word but it can grant you thousands of blessings. Perhaps through staying honest during good times and bad times or even sacrificing yourself for another, one thing is for sure; if you practice it, you will surely be rewarded. Refrain from it, and the penalties could be fatal.

The story entitled Alibaba and the Forty Thieves was all about Alibaba, a poor woodcutter. The story started when Alibaba was at his work cutting trees and found a mysterious cave with lots of treasures revealed only by the words, ‘Open Sesame’. He told the secret to his elder brother. Cassim, even if he's already rich, still desires to get the treasures in the cave. But unfortunately, when he went to the cave to get the treasure, he forgot the words to close it, and the Thieves killed him.
The Thieves think that maybe there was another person that also knew the secret in the cave, so they thought of some ways to find and kill that person. Morgiana, a slave girl of Cassim (now Ali-Baba) has seen the Thieves plotting their first attempt. And she is loyal to her master. Whatever the Thieves were planning, she always foils them. And at last, the chief thief is dead, and Alibaba was extremely grateful to what Morgiana did. So, he rewarded her by marrying her to his son. Thus, they lived prosperously except Cassim and the Forty Thieves.
The author shows the readers that those who are careless lose everything and those who are clever prosper. Much like Cassim and his greediness. He just entered the cave without checking to see if he knew how to safely escape. Due to his desire to get the treasure he forgot the password to leave the cave so he was killed by the robbers. Ironically, his brother, Alibaba, is a trustworthy who did not let anyone else know the secret of the cave so that others may be spared. He became wealthy because he is person who is clever and trustworthy
If I had been asked about it, I would not have taken advantage to get it even when others say that it is treasure and great thing to change a person's life. I will strive hard to get all those kind of things, not be getting the stolen treasures of the thieves.
In the story of alibaba we all knew that cassim died horribly by being greedy. In that event we can infer that greediness can lead to bad thing. In this day we can compare cassim's greediness to our government. Our government that hides many secret just to have their own good.We all knew that our government are very rich yet they are not contented on what they have.Just like in the story we knew that cassim has a healthy businness that provides them money to buy their needs. We can conclude that greediness is very bad thing that a person can have.
‘Alibaba and the Forty Thieves’ showed a lot of traits: some of them should be admired and reciprocated yet others must be despised. Nowadays, the government and the people do not have a good understanding. They do not trust each other. This is most probably because some of them are not doing their jobs properly. Various government officials, as evidenced by recent political issues, are too selfish for their own good. Even though they have lots of money, they still want to be richer and more powerful. Just like Cassim, who was wealthy yet yearned for more than what he had.
There might be some bad apples in the lot, but there are good people too. These persons do their jobs well and give praise where it is due; they are unselfish. Similar to Ali Baba, who let Morgiana marry his son and shared his blessings with her. The Arabian story that I read shows how loyalty and greediness can affect us to our daily lives. The story wants to show that when you have an enough loyalty to your Master, you will be granted by a good reward. If you are greedy, there are some bad things that may happen to you
The story, 'Alibaba and the Forty Thieves', shows the traits of Arabian people; like, loyalty. This is reflected in their traditions. For example, when their master has died, a servant must be buried with their master's tomb. Even though Morgiana saved her master's life instead of dying with him, it is still an act of undying loyalty to her master. She did all this just to protect her master from the heinous thieves. The story also highlights the saying, “If your conduct is determined solely by considerations of profit you will arouse great resentment." If act on account of avarice, you will reap none and less; similar to the way the thieves were finished off after their attempted assassinations on Alibaba. Comparable to the proverb, 'You reap what you sow,' good actions sprout great rewards. Like how Morgiana was repayed for her devotion to her owner.
The story shows us the importance of loyalty and how it will reflect us as a person. People nowadays tend to traitor their close friends when they're in trouble. We should value the relationship we had to that person even in a short period of time, we should never traitor someone just because we're in trouble, and thus, we should help each other to conquer the trouble/problem we're facing. The loyalty of Morgiana shows that there are still people who knows how to value relationship and are still loyal no matter what. In my opinion, Morgiana showed her loyalty to Alibaba not just because she wanted a reward, she showed her loyalty because it's her job to keep him safe and away from those people who threatens his life. In recent times, I think no one would ever risk his/her life for someone unless he/she would benefit from it.

In the other hand, the greediness of Cassim reflects some of us. A good example is our government that corrupts the people and lie against us. One thing we can learn from the story is that we should not always take, we should also give because giving doesn't mean we lost something, it means we did help someone have something.

  1. - I was surprised when I saw how long your work is, I'm just expecting 500-600 words but there you are, you did 1049 words. It took me a lot of time reading your work but it was all worth it. I was actually amazed by how you started and ended your review.
    - You explained very well the traits that you have observed from the story and I liked how you connect it with real life situation. -Connecting government and Cassim's situation was a nice idea, I didn't even notice it, until you give me that kind of idea.
    - Honestly, your work looks like a work of college student.
    - Overall, 5/5 *clap clap*
